On December 14, 2012, a disturbed young man with a high-powered rifle entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. At the end of the day, 26 people were dead. 20 of them were 6 or 7-year-old children. In the face of intolerable horrific grief compounded by threats from evil people who tried to claim the shooting never happened, some of the parents of those 20 children formed Sandy Hook Promise – a group to try to end gun violence and to prevent that violence before it happens. Sadly, we all know the horror of gun violence continues, but I want to do what I can to help this group.
As some of you may know, I tried to have an EBay auction for this painting, but there was little traction in views let alone bids. I don’t know if the subject matter turned people off, but I am determined to help this group no matter what it takes. I grew up in “gun culture,” and it scared me. Despite potential different opinions on this issue or over politics in general, we are human, we want children to be safe, and I’d wager most of us are weary of a new story about gun violence seemingly every couple of weeks.
I should let you know that this painting is large; it is 30” x 40”, so if you’re interested, please be sure to have the space for it before committing to buy. I’m asking $750 which is below the typical price for a painting this size, and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Sandy Hook Promise. As usual, if you can’t afford the $750 all at once, I’m willing to work out a payment schedule. Please help me help Sandy Hook Promise continue their great work & thank you!
