This month, it's all about LGBTQ+ Pride
I’m excited to announce a new “Painting of the Month” feature beginning THIS MONTH – June! I will feature a painting that’s usually on my website (but occasionally one not on my website) that I will highlight and offer a 20% discount for purchase of said painting. This month? You don’t get just one Painting of the Month; you get five!
June is LGBTQ+ Pride month, and it is a subject important to me. While Pride should be celebrated and honored every day every month, there is an actual reason the month of June is designated as Pride month. On June 28, 1969, after years of horrific persecution, loss of freedom, loss of livelihood, and at times, loss of life, the gay community at the Stonewall Inn bar in Greenwich Village decided to fight back after a police raid. This event launched activism in the gay community that continues today. While persecution in this community isn’t as severe as in years past, the LGBTQ+ community still suffers with enjoying basic human rights such as being able to be a parent, visiting loved ones in the hospital, being able to buy or sell items or services, treatments to help in gender identification, etc. So, we still need to remember and honor Pride month and be compassionate towards those who still struggle – sometimes in silence.
I invite you to visit a page dedicated to this month's Pride-themed collection on my website. Each of these five paintings feature the colors of the rainbow flag. One painting (the 11” x 14”) is the result of reusing the canvas of a painting that just wasn’t working for me. In other ones, the styles of Piet Mondrian, Mary Heilmann, and Yayoi Kusuma were an influence. In the fifth painting, Andy Warhol was an influence (plus City Lights Bookstore in the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco, my favorite place in the world where I feel more at home than I have anywhere else).
I hope these paintings speak to you; again, they are 20% off the regular price the entire month of June! I hope you look forward to my future “Paintings of the Month."
